Honey lavender, and the golden hour

Some flavors taste like a time of day. Honey lavender tastes like the golden hour to me — floral, warm, soft around the edges, the last light before dusk.

It’s the one I reach for when the seasons turn. Cream cheese loosened slowly, honey and a little culinary lavender folded through, a graham crust pressed by hand. It wants to be made unhurried and chilled overnight; it rewards anyone willing to wait.

I plated it beside a small sunset painting once, and the two looked like they’d always belonged together. That’s the whole idea, really — a painting for your walls, a cheesecake for your table, made by the same heart.
